2026 Syllabus - Choirs
- Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
- Depending on entries, and at the Festival's discretion, the classes could be further split between small choirs (less than 20), medium choirs (21-50) and large choirs (60+). Choirs with less than 15 members should enter small ensembles.
- All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that this is a virtual competition and that two (2) pieces are required for the Provincial Finals.
- The Provincial registration deadline for large ensembles - registration, payment and repertoire selections, is April 17th,2026

Selections
2 contrasting selections are required with a time limit of 20 minutes.
official copies must be submitted to the Hall secretary prior to the session commencing.
downloads will need to have their receipts attached as proof of purchase.
Payment should be made by e-transfer by conductor. The invoice that follows is available for the conductor to submitted to your Board for re-imbursement. Cheques are also accepted.

School, Choral Speaking Choirs

Choral Speech – Choral speech is the speaking of a piece of literature by a speech choir. The focus is on the language and the text. The prime emphasis is on telling the story, rather than acting it out. Gestures and simple in-place movements may be used, but there is no movement around the stage. Variety may be created through the division of voices, use of solo voices, physical arrangement of the choir, use of props and the suggestion of a simple costume.
1.Choral speaking groups will be marked on clarity, articulation and quality of sound.
2.Props are not permitted.
3.All selections must be memorized.
4.For sample works of choral speaking the following are guidelines:
"Rotten Convention - Shel Silverstein from " Falling Up" - Harper Collins,
"The Raven" - Edgar Allan Poe - from " The Best Poems Ever" Scholastic.
Performance times MUST be included on the entry form. Scripts must be handed into the adjudicator.

A Choir may include students in grades LOWER than the designated category, but not higher. Eg. A Junior Choir may include Grade 3 but not Grade 7 students.
Depending on entries, and at the Festival's discretion, the classes could be further split.
