2026 Syllabus - Classical Piano

  1. Memorization is required.
  2. Unlike the RCM rules, the Peterborough Kiwanis Festival does not allow popular selections to be used in study classes. If you want to play a popular selection, please enter  Popular Piano Solos.
  3. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of TWO classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  4. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  5. "Teacher's Choice" pieces are not permitted.
  6. We will only accept repertoire from the 2022 RCM Piano Syllabus or 2018 Conservatory Canada Syllabus.
  7. A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. 
  8. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition (June, 2026) upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that 2 pieces are required for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be April 17th, 2026.

Beginner Ages (5-10)

DEFINITION

• Open Level competitors must be performing at the ARCT/A.Mus. level or above but do not have to have attained their associate degree.

• Level 10 pieces and below are not permitted in this category.

• Pieces do not need to be listed in the RCM or CC syllabi.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of one (1) selection is  required, however, you may add a second piece if it fits within the prescribed time limit of 35 minutes.

If one selection is a sonata, at least two consecutive movements (a minuet and trio is considered one movement) must be performed, even if the RCM & CC Syllabi indicate that the complete piece is required. Playing the complete piece is optional as long as it fits into the set time limit. Please note that Concertos are not permitted in this class.

If you do not provide all information required (i.e. the names of your pieces and payment) by your Festival's Provincial deadline, it will result in disqualification. "To Be Decided" in any field will not be accepted and will also result in disqualification.
 
The only exception to this is the field labelled "Movement/Musical".  If your piece is a sonata or a concerto, etc. you MUST define which movements you will be playing.  If your piece does not have any movements please put "none".
