Costumes may be worn in Songs from the Screen and More, but are not taken into consideration in the adjudication.

Only 2 hand help props may be used in this category. A chair will be provided at the venue if needed.

Songs may be transposed to suit the entrants voice within reason.

No cuts are allowed in vocal sections of the songs – only instrumental cuts (eg extended piano interludes) are allowed if necessary and repeats should not be observed. Additional music should not be added for dance breaks.

SONGS THAT ARE PERMITTED - see the SSAM Song List for suggestions. Please see the list from OMFA website.

Duets that can be performed as a solo,( eg. I See the Light, Tangled, Shallow, A Star is Born, A Whole New World, Aladdin)

SELECTIONS NOT PERMITTED - Songs that were originally written for live fully staged musicals and that were later made into movies, (eg. The Sound of Music, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Hamilton, In the Heights, Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, 13). Songs that have been originally released as a commercial pop song and are later included in films should be entered in the Popular Voice (eg. songs from Mamma Mia, Sing, & Juliet). Songs that were originally released as a commercial pop song and are later used in a jukebox musical should be entered in Popular Voice. (Moulin Rouge, Beautiful, Mamma Mia)

Age and culturally appropriate repertoire and suitable lyrics/offensive language should be taken into consideration when choosing selections. Offensive language (profanity) found in song selections must be replaced with alternate word(s) to ensure a 'clean' and family friendly version up to the Intermediate level.

All selections must be sung from memory.

All selections must be sung with acoustic piano accompaniment.
Traditional ( before 1945)
Entry deadline is January 31st, 2026 at 9:00 p.m.
Solo classes
Refer to Rules, read all Syllabus rules with care.
Maximum performance time - 6 Minutes.
Music choices DO NOT have to be from RCM or Conservatory Canada Lists and should be COVERS of popular songs heard on the radio, streaming services, etc.
Musical Theatre, and Classical Vocal songs are not permitted.
Sheet music must be provided to the adjudicators (No charts or tabs permitted).
Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.To be eligible for a scholarship, and recommendation by Adjudicator to OMFA competition, competitors must enter a minimum of TWO Songs of Screen and More classes (at same level) and receive a minimum mark of 85.
Singers are encouraged to choose repertoire from the SSAM song list/chart which can be found on the OMFA website.

Ensembles

The ensemble must consist of a minimum of four individuals to a maximum of fifteen individuals.
The average of the ages of all participants must be equal or be less than the category entered.
Memorization is required.
A piece of music, whether prescribed or own choice, cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class.
Competitors must enter the class corresponding to the age of the oldest member of the duet/trio
Selections must be songs that were written for, or first appeared in a movie or film.
Musical Theatre, Popular Voice and Classical Voice selections are not permitted.
